About Alfa Romeo 145
The Alfa Romeo 145 is a three-door compact hatchback introduced in 1994 and produced until 2000. Built in Italy, it replaced the Alfa Romeo 33 and competed in the European C-segment. It was positioned as the sportier counterpart to the related five-door Alfa Romeo 146, before both models were succeeded by the 147.
Its design is defined by an angular front, rising waistline, broad rear pillars and a high, almost vertical tail. This gave the 145 a distinctive appearance while providing useful cabin and luggage space for a three-door car. Front-wheel drive and a five-speed manual transmission were standard across the main range.
Early petrol versions retained Alfa Romeo’s flat-four boxer engines in 1.4-, 1.6- and 1.7-litre forms. The range later moved to 16-valve Twin Spark inline-four engines, offered in several capacities from 1.4 to 2.0 litres. Diesel options included 1.9-litre turbocharged units, with a JTD common-rail version available late in production. The 2.0-litre Quadrifoglio was the principal performance model.
The 145 is known for unconventional styling, responsive handling and characterful petrol engines. Within Alfa Romeo’s 1990s range, it combined everyday hatchback practicality with a more individual and driver-focused character than many mainstream compact cars.
