About Acura Vigor
The Acura Vigor was a four-door sport-luxury sedan sold in North America for the 1992–1994 model years. Developed from Honda’s Japanese-market Vigor, it arrived during Acura’s early expansion and filled the price and size gap between the compact Integra sedan and the larger Legend. Its role was to provide more space and refinement than the Integra while retaining a driver-focused character.
Its defining feature was a 2.5-litre, 20-valve inline-five engine producing 176 hp. The unusual five-cylinder unit was mounted longitudinally but drove the front wheels, giving the Vigor a distinctive mechanical layout. Buyers could choose a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmission. Four-wheel double-wishbone suspension, four-wheel disc brakes and standard anti-lock braking supported its sport-sedan positioning.
The range consisted mainly of LS and better-equipped GS versions. The GS added features including leather trim, a power moonroof and an upgraded audio system, while both versions shared the same engine and core chassis. Changes during the short production run were modest, focusing on equipment and safety updates rather than a major redesign.
The Vigor is best known for its rare inline-five powertrain, balanced handling and understated design. It was succeeded by the Acura 2.5TL, which retained a version of the five-cylinder engine.
