About Acura MDX

The Acura MDX is a three-row luxury crossover introduced for the 2001 model year. Designed and engineered primarily for North America, it became Acura’s first purpose-built SUV and has largely been manufactured in the United States. It occupies the flagship SUV position in the brand’s range, above the smaller RDX and ADX.

Across four generations, the MDX has combined seven-seat practicality with a more road-focused character than a traditional body-on-frame SUV. Most versions use a V6 engine, with front-wheel drive offered on selected models and Acura’s torque-vectoring Super Handling All-Wheel Drive widely available. A three-motor Sport Hybrid was sold during the third generation, while the fourth generation introduced the performance-oriented Type S with a turbocharged V6, standard all-wheel drive and upgraded chassis hardware.

The MDX is known for its flexible cabin, useful cargo capacity, balanced handling and broad range of comfort, technology and driver-assistance features. Regular models emphasise everyday refinement and family usability, while A-Spec versions add sportier styling and the Type S provides the strongest performance. This mix places the MDX between mainstream three-row crossovers and more expensive luxury SUVs, making it a central model in Acura’s lineup.
