About Acura Legend
The Acura Legend was a mid-size luxury car and one of the two models that launched the Acura brand in North America in 1986. Positioned above the Integra, it served as Acura’s flagship and helped establish Honda’s new premium division as an alternative to established European and American luxury marques.
Built in Japan, the Legend was related to the Honda Legend sold in other markets. Its development also involved Britain’s Rover Group, with the programme producing both the Legend and Rover 800. Acura offered the model as a four-door sedan from 1986 and added a two-door coupe for 1987.
Two generations were sold. The first ran through 1990, while the redesigned 1991 model was larger and more refined. All versions used V6 engines, with manual and automatic transmissions available on selected models. Later second-generation variants included more powerful coupe models and the performance-oriented GS sedan.
The Legend is known for combining a quiet, well-equipped cabin with smooth power delivery, composed handling and strong build quality. It offered a more understated interpretation of a premium car than many rivals of its era. Production ended after the 1995 model year, and the 3.5 RL replaced it as Acura’s flagship sedan for 1996.
